Information on DVSA Dataset and Small Sample 

     The DV/SA Dataset is made up of data provided by Rhode Island Law Enforcement to the Domestic Violence Training and Monitoring Unit. The data is submitted on the legislatively mandated Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault/Child Molestation Police Reporting Form (DV/SA Form). The data on this website starts with the calendar date of January 1, 1999 and runs through December 31, 2004. While this dataset is not up in "real" time, it is updated periodically. Along with the DV/SA Dataset (approximately 48,228 records from January 1, 1999 through December 31, 2004) there is also a small sample of 200 records. This is provided for purposes of import functions, the testing of computer programs, preliminary program analysis, etc. The 200 records sample provided is a test file to be used as a utility. While it is a fair numerical representation of Rhode Island Law Enforcement statewide, it is not a "random" sample and is not meant to be used for analysis.

     Download times for the DV/SA Dataset can vary greatly depending on your internet connection, whether it be a slow phone/56K modem connection or a fast Ethernet connection. Download times can run from a best case scenario of under a few minutes to a worst case scenario of 15-30 minutes. The download of the sample dataset should run quickly.
